I’ve lived in Seattle off and on since I moved here as a kid in 1979. These are the places I enjoy. Your mileage may vary.

  • Ocho. MKT in Tangletown, How to Cook a Wolf in Queen Anne or Tavolata. Lola for breakfast downtown, Palace Kithcen for a burger in the bar. San Fermo for Italian in Ballard. The Other Coast for sandwiches, Zylberschtein for bagels, and breakfast. Dick’s is an institution but just mediocre in my opinion. Any PCC deli for a quick bite. Lupo or Cornutto for thin crust, wood-fired pizza. Windy City Pie for pizza that is out of this world. Fuji Bakery for a Crunchy Cream

  • Herkimer has been my go-to since 2004. Four locations around the city. Espresso, drip, and cold brew. No pour-overs. They roast their own beans at the Greenwood location and sell bags. Can be slightly standoffish I have heard, but I swear they are all really nice and friendly if you are nice to them. :-)

Or Analog, Rapha Cycle Club, Vitrola, Lighthouse.

  • Life on Mars, Ocho. The bar at Canlis is fantastic but spendy and dressy. Palace Kitchen.

  • Holy Mountain, Chucks Hop Shops (Land of 1000 beers!), Great Notion, Urban Family, Georgetown.

  • Filson Flagship, Filson Ballard, Daybreak Records, Wall of Sound, Recycled Cycles, Wonderland Gear Exchange, Hawthorne Stereo, Easy Street Records, Rapha Cycle Club, Book Larder, Emerald Water Anglers, Elliot Bay bookstore. Mule Expedition Outfitters. Zion’s Gate for hard to find black metal and reggae vinyl. KEXP and Light in the Attic records.

  • Visit KEXP and/or tune the car radio to 90.3 or download the app. A ferry ride to Bainbridge. The Ballard Locks and Golden Gardens. Bruce Lee’s resting place. Langley on Whidbey Island. EMP at Seattle Center. Burke Museum on the UW campus. Sounders match if they are in town…. ESP if they are playing Portland.

  • Duthie for a mountain bike ride, surfing at Westport, hike Rattlesnake Lake, stroll around Greenlake or Discovery park. Hike to Camp Muir. Climb the South Spur on Mt Adams.
